Beautiful.
I know this limestone is especially soft but the work involved in hollowing out rooms is mind boggling.
Good picture, I like the rose tint.
Thanks becker and ic_uc — we got to this church after deciding to randomly set off across country. Luckily, or we would now be drying skeletons in a valley somewhere, a small dog appeared out of nowhere to accompany us. When it realised we were clueless, it took the lead and guided us here… a good 3 hour walk… but which, coincidently, was right next to the only cafe for kilometers. The cafe was literally a hole in a rock kilometers from anywhere. For a small fee the cafe-owner got out the rickety ladder you can see in the bottom right of the pic so we could climb up to view the carvings and frescoes.

PS John is a MUCH better writer than I am ;-P
this place is amazing! just added Turkey to my must-see list…
PS: thanks for the hi message on Behance!
Thanks /blue — Turkey was at the very top of places I’ve always wanted to go so 3 months there was a dream! Can’t recommend it enough — tho’ I suspect off-season is far more fun than during summer (unless you’re a fan of drunken brits and heat…)
Your Behance account stuff is fantastic btw!
