Do you think the Bible teaches that being poor is spiritual?

Question by Defending the truth: Do you think the Bible teaches that being poor is spiritual?
Like many people, the media, perceive that as a Christian, one is to be poor to be spiritual…
But, i would have to disagree. It would seem that the Bible teaches otherwise.

But I want to know what you have learned on the subject of prosperity and poverty in the bible. Also if being poor is spiritual?

My church interior is being painted soon; I want to liven the acoustics. Is there a special paint?

Question by Erik M: My church interior is being painted soon; I want to liven the acoustics. Is there a special paint?
The sanctuary is fairly large, and has a moderate echo already. I am worried that the new paint will deaden the reverb, and am trying to find a paint that will keep the surface as hard as possible (even if it means repainting a coat on top of the pigment coat.)

The church uses traditional music, choir and organ, and so would favor a live acoustic.

Does this paint exist? I’ve heard about it being used, but I don’t know if it’s just rumors. Where can I find it?

There is something out there called Acousti-coat, but it’s meant to reduce an acoustic effect. Check out http://www.jwmooney.com/wcpub/page11.html as a good general guide to painting for acoustics. Good luck!

‘Abide in me,’ Jesus tells us, ‘and you will bear much fruit.’ Yet too often we forget that fruit needs different seasons in order to grow. We measure our spiritual maturity by how much we do rather than how we are responding to our current spiritual season. In Spiritual Rhythm, Mark Buchanan replaces our spirituality of busyness with a spirituality of abiding. Sometimes we are busy, sometimes still, sometimes pushing with all we’ve got, sometimes waiting. This model of the spiritual life measures and produces growth by asking: Are we living in rhythm with the season we are in? With the lyrical writing for which he is known, Mark invites us to respond to every season of the heart, whether we are flourishing and fruitful, stark and dismal, or cool and windy. In comparing spiritual rhythms to the seasons of the year, he shows us what to expect from each season and how embracing the seasons causes our spiritual lives to prosper. As he draws on the powerful words of Scripture, Mark explores what activities are suitable or necessary in each season—and what activities are useless or even harmful in that season. Throughout the book, Mark weaves together stories of young and old, men and women, families, couples, and individuals who are in or have been through a particular season of the heart. As Mark writes, ‘I pray that this book meets you in whatever season you’re in, and prepares you for whatever seasons await. I pray that it helps you find your voice, your stride, your rhythm, in season or out. Mostly, I pray that you, with or without my help, find Christ wherever you are. And that, even more, you discover that wherever you are, he’s found you.’

Early Church – How the Bride of Christ is Being Hindered in It’s Struggle to Fully Mature

Early Church – How the Bride of Christ is Being Hindered in It’s Struggle to Fully Mature

Which bit of a serious athlete’s body, one that is competing at a rather advanced level, is the least signifigant? If they are engaged as a professional sportsperson, then then there could never be a “least important” area of the body. This is indeed the very same situation the bride of Christ finds itself in…no portion is insignificant, lacking tremendous value.

Unfortunately, the institutional Christian church configuration doesn’t let the lion’s share of the body of Christ to be in action and gain the necessary strength.

The late Edwards Deming, the architect of Japan’s post second world war industrial force, indicated that 93% of all organizational difficulties are the result of systems, not people related.

This means that…the features of the system symbolize the biggest defining feature shaping the progress of any organized group. As a result, any assembly of people hoping to cooperate effectively together, in this situation, a collection of Christians, is required to create strong systems of functioning in order to be effective.

If there is no minor segment of the body of Christ, then why aren’t every one of the segments granted the same dynamic workout that a high achieving athlete would need? The answer to this question is found in the commonplace church operating systems that regard highly a selection of God given gifts more than other ones, all the while asserting this to not be the case.

The typical western church group is managed by the ordained clergy, a tiny company of chosen folks. Conversely, in the quickest expanding churches in the world, each and everyone has a place, an important role to live out. The arrangements that they are operated under are quite unalike, even if the ones in westernized countries declare loyalty to the “priesthood of all believers,” they hardly ever advance systems that allow this to take place.

The systems of organization we employ in each and every aspect of our lives are the result of the tenets held by the designers of the organizing systems. The church operating systems we discover in the book of acts, are not the same as the ones which most Christian believers in the industrialized world are accustomed to and are encouraged to operate within. The industrialized world is directed by a demand and control operational constitution, which is super for productivity but not for constructing community.

New Testament community is constructed when we learn to look one another in the eye and be grateful for the distinctive value God has built into each person. God Almighty has bestowed the church of Christ with many more talents than the existing systems have the capacity to hold and honour. We were designed for robust action in the service of God Almighty, and it is far better to give than just receive. It’s up to us to step forward and come to be the Christian that God has intended and not only go to a church meeting and watch other people perform and get paid as a result.

Chris Keenan is the founder of Help for House Church. They provide a one of a kind learning environment for followers of Jesus to learn about the new testament church and how to become the church as opposed to “going to church.” Their unique service makes learning about the early church simple and convenient.
