The Byrds – The Christian Life
My buddies tell me that I should’ve waited They say I’m missing a whole world of fun But I still love them and I sing with pride I like the Christian life I won’t lose a friend by heeding God’s call For what is a friend who’d want you to fall Others find pleasure in things I despise I like the Christian life My buddies shun me since I turned to Jesus They say I’m missing a whole world of fun I live without them and walk in the light I like the Christian life I won’t lose a friend by heeding God’s call For what is a friend who’d want you to fall Others find pleasure in things I despise I like the Christian life I like the Christian life

just hear that steel… on headphones… incredible!
I have lost “friends” for no other reason than I became a Christian. That’s on them.
You can still hear Gram on the choruses, though.
Never heard this before ~ thanks for posting! This, along with “Jesus Is Just Alright” almost makes the Byrds a Gospel Group! lol
Prior to the album’s release, Gram Parsons had sang / recorded the lead vocals on most of SOTR, but most of them were hastily replaced with McGuinn’s vocals after Parsons’ earlier management threatened a breach of contract lawsuit. The extended reissue restores the Parsons vocals, along with the McGuinn versions.
nice rendition
don’t go to church but love to sing along with this song…. makes me feel good
@brownwalrus909 Its Roger McQuinn, enough this Jew heard the Byrds to know. His accent is fake besides.Gram Parsons was from South Georgia & had an accent of such and a damn better voice comming from the heart, but he’s heard in the background.
Great song! Thanks for sharing.
the byrds rock
This is Gram Parsons singing….Roger McGuinn sings You Ain’t Going Nowhere.
great song
Fanatiker-vals
Kriga bi kjempa med Guda som årsak.
Finst ingen dummare kriga enn det!
Eg æ ‘kji harm på ein hedninge-krok!
Eg leve ‘kji ette ei bok!
Og mange dei tru på dommedags-prat,
dei krøpe ihop med bibel og mat.
Eg vil ‘kji sita og be i ein krok!
Eg leve ‘kji ette ei bok!
Stundo so koma ‘rei , banke på døre.
Ha med seg fasit på livet te meg.
Men då få’rei neva i nakkji og brok!
Eg leve ‘kji ette ei bok!
I like the Hellbillies version better… from a Norwegian Pagan.
Being a Christian, this song has a bit more impact on me than likely a non believer but it really does’nt matter…as long as you enjoy this tune, for whatever you choose. It’s a beautiful tune done incredibly well. That’s what matters…another great pick from ”Sweetheart Of The Rodeo”. Thanks for posting all these.
This is most certainly, 100% Roger McGuinn singing…
Cool song I never heard before. I do like the Christian Life. Had to check out your site cause my friend David Denk will be starting with you , and I see he is going to fit in perfect. Way to go Dave, Cool Band, Have FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well thats certainly one way to interpret it, even if it was tongue in cheek however, i dont think the byrds would have called it ‘anti-christian’
It’s not Gram Parsons. It’s Roger McGuinn. I have the deluxe edition with the Parsons vocals, and this ain’t him.
This IS Gram Parsons singing.
ironically, while this album was released in 1968 with this song on it….9 years later Roger McGuinn would convert to Christianity.
…maybe he found out what the Christian life was all about =)
Check the “International Submarine Band” CD……………its there
xx
I’d like to hear Grams version of this song! Even so I like this version, Im starting to really like this kinda country sound.
Gram Parsons sings this better…..no disrespect to Roger McGuinn..
Militant. YOU. ARE. A. FUCKING. COCK.
