Why would anyone think that the christian life is the “easy way out” for anyboby?

Question by elyon: Why would anyone think that the christian life is the “easy way out” for anyboby?
Any mature christian will tell you that it is a life of trial and testing and persecution, with a lot of shame and guilt over not being able to live the Christian life because of weakness.
To Acid Zebra: Do you not see name calling and slanderous language as persecution, although only verbal in nature? What about family members that refuse to have anything more to do with you? Is that a type of persecution? How about verbal threats of physical violence?

Shame and guilt are unhealthy emotions to carry about for the whole of ones life.

  1. Atheism is the easy way out. You don’t have to believe anything, and you don’t have to maintain a standard of any kind.

Total lack of accountability. You never have to worry about shame or guilt.

  2. I will agree with you neighbor, except for the guilt part. I don’t let that monkey ride my back anymore, Jesus took him off for me.

  3. It might seem to be an “easy way out” simply because in Christianity, there aren’t too many works or duties. In other words, you don’t gain your way to salvation by praying __ times a day, being nice to __ people a week, and so on.

  4. “it is a life of trial talk and testing the patience of others and persecution complex”

Fixed your sentence for you. I agree with “a lot of shame and guilt” but not the reason you give.

I’m serious, can Christians in western nations like the US really claim persecution with a straight face? Are you fecking kidding me?

  5. They might if they are biblically illiterate and listen to those false ‘health and wealth’ preachers. That would give them the false impression that Christianity was all blessings and benefits. Well, Jesus said that whoever would follow Him must “pick up their cross daily” to do that. A cross is a symbol of shame and suffering (to non-Christians). Jesus meant that we must bear His name despite any derision or suffering that brings us; we must be prepared to crucify those sins we are prone to in order to follow Him; the old sin nature is to be crucified if we are to be set free from slavery to sin and become children of God. That’s what Romans chapter 5 is all about. Suffering is involved but – boy! – is it worth it!

  6. yes it does have some trials and persecution but a true mature christian can tell you that you also receive so many blessings at the same time.

  7. how to define a mature Christian since there are over 2000 sects so who would be your chosen role model? I don’t see that being religious has anything to do with life easy or otherwise, due to all religions being manmade or at least man interpreted. Life on earth was never meant to be easy it is the battle ground of the soul so to experience life in every way possible to evolve back to the Godhead.

  8. Well, it is both.

Jesus said his yoke is light and easy which is true unlike the Catholic religion or any other.

However, the Christian walk is different…….full of temptation, guilt and doubt but Jesus took away all that though..

  9. Do what you want, persecute who you want, and discriminate against what you want, just make sure you believe in Jesus real hard.

    (Ephesians 2:8)
    (Galatians 2:16)
    (Romans 3:20,23)

  10. Almost anyone where Christianity is the mainstream, majority culture would, surely.
Being a non-Christian minority isn’t an “easy way out” there.

Yes, I take your point about fully-lived Christianity being continuous effort and striving to change. But how many people calling themselves Christians understand that?
Again, especially where Christians are the majority and there is little or no threat to to their beliefs or lifestyle.

Christians where I live are not persecuted, though they are sometimes upset that they no longer dominate and control society as they once did.

  11. I love being a Christian. trials and all, I LOVE IT!!!!!
